Tuesday Leg Workout

Decent overall performance today on legs. First off I did 30 minutes cardio this morning at 6:45am, then I trained legs at 9am, then did 15 minutes on the stepmill + some core exercises at 1:30pm…a decent bit of activity by the time my day was half over.

I got 190 lbs for 12 reps and 205 lbs for 8 reps on the Prone Leg Curl, both of which were PR’s for me.

I was also somewhat pleased with my performance on Barbell Pause Squats…decent, but i’ll let others be the judge:

  1. Kurt,

How heavy do you get in the offseason?

Also, does this differ now compared to when you were younger? I have read that you like to stay pretty lean now, but was wondering if that is something you have always done or only as you got older?

    Training is looking awesome!

    Thanks,

    Evan

    • Evan, I don’t like to get much more than 218-220 lbs in the off-season, which is a about a 10% difference from my stage weight. I often will stay as low as 214-218. Compared to when I was younger, I definitely try to stay leaner in the off-season, because I do not find any benefit from carrying additional weight.

      • Thanks for your reply Kurt, really appreciate the point of view of a vet in Natural Bodybuilding.

I’m just starting off in the sport and am struggling with the ‘how heavy to get’ issue. Your input is great.

Hey kurt, how long before a show do you normally start to cut?

    April 5, 2012 at 6:41 pm

    • minimum of 20 weeks. Last year I had 20 weeks prior to my first show, 23 weeks to my second show and 28 weeks up to Worlds (my last show of the season). Even for someone who stays relatively lean off-season, I recommend at least 20 weeks
