Our 7 year old border collie was mauled and killed in front of my 12 year old daughter last night by a pit. All of our dogs have been rescues, and I keep telling myself this isn't a dog or a breed issue, but an owner issue. I don't know if I believe it now. My daughter is despondent, she is inconsolable, replaying the blood and the sounds and the last few breaths our Maggie Lu took. The Virginia Beach Animal Control suggested since our pet was also off leash, the judge may not put the pit down. The dog broke out of a fenced area to kill our dog. I believe now the dog should be put down, without question. I am sorry ... we are all forever changed by this attack. My 16 year old is devastated. so violent. My heart goes out to the elderly lady who lost her life and her daughter who tried to save her from the attack.
