When approached to care for these dogs, San Diego Humane Society didn’t hesitate in spite of the significant impact on resources, space, and personnel. The 29 dogs arriving at San Diego Humane Society today will require medical treatment and the overdue TLC that they have been denied thus far. Any necessary behavior modification work will also be provided before re-homing the dogs to adopters. We are advocates for the homeless dogs and cats in North County San Diego that are at risk for euthanasia. Our goal is to save treatable, trainable, manageable and misdiagnosed animals in San Diego shelters by working with government entities, non-profit rescue groups, and our own network of volunteers to provide a system of transport, training, fostering and adoption. We are advocates for homeless dogs and cats in San Diego that are at risk for euthanasia. Our goal is to save treatable, trainable, manageable and misdiagnosed animals from San Diego shelters by providing a system of transport, training, fostering and adoption. Our ultimate wish would be empty shelters—meaning that no animal is abandoned and no shelter would need to kill one animal to make room for another. To this end, we are also cheerleaders for robust programs, and TNR (trap, neuter, release) programs for feral cats. Please note: SPOT does not take in strays or owner-relinquished pets, but The average number of animals in our care on a daily basis is approximately 45 to 55 — that’s dogs, cats, and birds combined. Many of the animals in our care are in loving foster homes throughout San Diego County, awaiting adoption into a forever home, while several others are housed at our Adoption Center in Oceanside. The Rescued Dog is a non-profit 501(c)3, all-breed dog rescue in San Diego, CA.
